Mihály Munkácsy was a Hungarian painter who earned international recognition with his genre pictures and large-scale biblical paintings. Born on February 20, 1844, in Munkács, Hungary, he adopted his pseudonym from his hometown. Munkácsy's artistic journey began with an apprenticeship to itinerant painter Elek Szamossy, followed by studies at the Academy of Vienna, Munich Academy, and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he refined his skills and developed his unique style.
